Opening Keynote Saturday 13th March by Li Cunxin

What about Mao's Last Dancer? Li's Extraordinary Journey.

Li Cunxin AO’s journey is simply remarkable. He was born into utter poverty in Mao’s Communist China, at a very young age he was selected to train at Madame Mao’s Beijing Dance Academy. So began Li’s journey. The 7 years of harsh training regime at the Beijing Dance Academy taught him discipline, resilience, determination and perseverance. Li’s astounding drive and relentless work made him one of the best dancers in the world.

Li’s story is a living example of overcoming adversity and achieving excellence in life.

Friday 12th March Workshop with Dr John Munro

Full day workshop for Teachers, Parents and Educators

This workshop format will be via zoom by Dr John Munro in Melbourne, for attendees registered for the day and in attendance at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

You are required to bring a laptop for participation.  More details will be provided to those registered.

Participants will be encouraged to apply the framework to topics they will be teaching later in 2021.

• Recognising gifted learning in the classroom : A first step in planning for extension..  

• Gifted learning in its multiple forms in the classroom.
• A framework for planning extension based on how gifted learners learn;  identifying instances of gifted learning in the classroom
• Differentiating  the teaching, the curriculum, and the learning context:  Application of the framework to topics in the Australian Curriculum

The Queensland Association for Gifted and Talented Children Inc has a proud history of supporting gifted children and their families. In 2020 we entered our 40th year of service to the community and the year will remain noted for Covid-19 and cancelled conferences. Speakers at the 2021 conference will share inspiring insights into supporting children and young adults to achieve personal excellence. Our Conference attracts a wide audience including parents, teachers, school leaders, a range of associated professionals and academics interested in the education and well-being of gifted children.

Conference Program for 12 and 13 March

Special consideration for teachers in remote areas to be able to registration for Friday 12th March for attendance via Zoom can be arranged by contacting the office [at] qagtc [dot] org [dot] au.  Attendees qualify for remote registration if school is located beyond 350km from Brisbane.

For remote attendance it is suggested that a minimum of 3-4 teachers register from a school to be able to be able to collaborate in workshop activities as required by the presenter. We doubt it would work for 1 person but even 2 people could collaborate for activities. So up to school decision.
