August Parent/Teacher Support Group Meeting

Following a short GC Branch AGM (see AGM agenda and proxy forms below) this session will feature two presentations:

Brisbane Catholic Education schools: What professional supports and processes are available to support students who are gifted and talented?

Facilitator: Dr Matt Capp is a Senior Education Officer: Inclusive Education.  Within the Brisbane Catholic Education Organisation, Matt's role is to provide professional support and advice to schools.

Gifted children with what may be (or may not be…) an autism spectrum disorder: How to tell the difference

Facilitator: Carol Barnes is an honorary Visiting Fellow (gifted education) at GERRIC within the University of New South Wales, national coordinator and Sydney meeting convenor for GLD Australia, and vice-president/parent group convenor of the QAGTC Gold Coast Branch.

Children's Workshop

Date:    Saturday August 12th, 2017.

Time:    2pm - 4pm. Please arrive at 1.45pm for registration.

Venue: St Michael’s College Jondique Ave Merrimac

Suggested age group:  Children aged 5-14 years

Cost:   Member cost $20   Non-member $30

We are very excited to be running a fun workshop where the Visual Arts meets the Performing Arts! Draw dragons with a street style edge, learn the basics of drawing and character development, and create your own mythical creature with Artlis Studios graffiti artist GillyAfterDark.

THEN:  Circus Stars with an introduction into the world of circus training as a well- rounded physical and creative outlet for children from all walks of life. The Circus Stars program is based around 5 key elements of why circus works for children: to have fun, to take safe risks, to build trust and work as a team, to encourage individuality, and to work hard on our skills. Some of the activities we will explore in the workshops include: Hula Hoops, Juggling, human pyramids, partner acrobatic balances, tumbling, skipping and circus obstacle course.

Bookings must be made in full by Thursday 10th August, 2017. Unfortunately no late payments can be accepted.


As a committee of volunteers, it is vital that you our members attend this AGM meeting. If unable to attend it is equally important that you fill out your proxy and return to us, so that a quorum can be established and the meeting go ahead. You may appoint any member of the QAGTC or the chairperson of the meeting as your proxy. All committee positions will be declared vacant at this meeting.

Completed proxies and or nomination forms can be either emailed or posted to the Gold Coast Branch address on the bottom of the form.

The AGM will be very brief and will be followed by the Parent Support Group meeting. Light refreshments will be served.

  • several children's activities (during school terms, usually on Saturday afternoons)
  • parent support group (PSG), usually with guest speaker, at the same time and venue as children's workshops so teachers/parents/carers are able to attend whilst their children are engaged in our workshop activities
  • Gold Coast Branch Committee hold regular meetings (during term time)
