Counselling Gifted Children

This book gives an outline of 15 case studies compiled during a year of counselling conducted by the author. She provides a page of analysis of the social/emotional and educational problems.

The Gifted Kids Survival Guide

There are two books in the series. Both are written for children/teenagers about what its like to be gifted and the concerns many gifted children have.

Workshop Planning Guide:

This booklet provides suggestions for planning introductory workshops for parents and teachers. As well as topics and formats there are suggestions about publicity, displays and evaluation.

Papers presented at the conference covered the educational needs and provision for gifted and talented children, programmes, research and practice.

Training Manual for Volunteer Counsellors

- QAGTC, 1985, pp 277 Prepared by Alf Lizzio and Keithia Wilson for QAGTC.

The manual is designed to be a framework for those wishing to establish community based non-professional counselling and information services for the families of gifted children. The training programme teaches basic helping skills and deals with issues in giftedness.

STUDY - The Simple Facts

Just what the title says! Michelle runs study courses for late primary/early high school students, and as a parent (of gifted children) she knows what she is talking about. Clear style and a no-nonsense recipe for getting study organised.

Reflections on classroom thinking strategies

ABLE - A Programme for Underachieving Adolescents

Able is an innovative programme designed to provide adolescents with strategies to enhance their potential achievement levels. Able provides students with the opportunity to develop and internalise their skills to become more capable in the future. Skills include creative problem solving, assertiveness for negotiation and communication, self awareness, reflective thinking and monitoring, critical thinking, self-perception, attributional retraining, future expectations and aspirations. The ABLE programme includes a teacher's manual, a student section and a parent section.

Illustrates strategies such as Curriculum Differentiation, Independent Learning, Acceleration and Mentoring. Provides a very useful accompanying booklet.
