Gabrielle Matters
Gabrielle Matters is the Director, New Basics, within Education Queensland. She
is also working on an international advisory group set up by the UK government
on the development of world-class tests.
In her former role as a deputy director at the Queensland Board of Senior
Secondary School Studies, she headed the division responsible for the
Queensland Core Skills Test, external examinations, and publishing.
Before commencing work at the Board in 1986 as a member of the tertiary
entrance task force, Gabrielle taught chemistry and physics in Queensland
schools (state and non-state) for 20 years including five years as a deputy
principal. She has also worked as a chemistry editor in London.
Gabrielle is the author of conference papers and journal articles on test
design and marking, and on the underachievement of boys. Her doctoral
dissertation was in the field of psychometrics, and McGraw-Hill has published
her book on test preparation.
